Queering the lovespoon/Llwyau Caru Cwiar is a question of what the love language of queer people is. Ideas of home, family and love behind closed doors have often weighed heavily on the lives of queer people throughout history. Merging the symbolism of lovespoons, and queer life together in an object with origins of utilitarian domesticity creates an opportunity to explore the mechanisms of straight community with a queer reading.
Queering the lovespoon is an installation and collection of queer lovespoons demonstrating the multidisciplinary skills of the artist. Craftspersonship is woven into the fabric of Wales and it is the artist’s wish to celebrate this by bringing together overlooked stories in a celebration of Welsh queer realities past, present and future.
